Do I need a referral?

Your insurance may or may not require a referral to receive physical therapy benefits.  This is determined by your policy.  You’ll want to call your insurance to verify your plan benefits. It is your responsibility to obtain a referral if you need it.

Do I need a prescription?

Prescriptions are unrelated to your insurance benefits and our practice does require you to have one. A referral is also considered a prescription, so there is no need to duplicate your efforts. Your prescription can be signed by any provider who has evaluated your injury or condition. If you have Medicare, your insurance does not allow your referral to come from a chiropractor.

How much does one session of physical therapy cost?

Every insurance that we participate in has an “allowed” amount.  This is a contractual agreement between the provider and the carrier.  Your cost depends on what is performed and how your insurance processes the claim. Because insurance policies vary widely, we encourage you to contact your insurance to familiarize yourself with your individual benefits.

What will my treatment plan look like?

Over the first 1-2 visits, you will meet with your therapist to create your exact Plan of Care. Based on your personalized goals, progress, and achievement, we may reassess your plan of care. We will provide frequent update notes to your referring provider.

Will I be doing exercises during my treatment time?

The majority of your treatment time will emphasize manual work. Exercises instructed at the office will focus on learning proper technique to complete the exercises at home, so you can achieve your goals successfully and independently.

How long are sessions?

If you have not completed your paperwork prior to your designated appointment time, please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early.  Your first visit will consist of an evaluation and will include treatment time. We reserve 60 minutes for this appointment.

Follow-up treatments are 45-60 minutes long and consists of manual physical therapy followed by necessary additions and adjustments to your home exercises and self-care retraining. While we do have modalities, they represent a very small portion of what we do. You have 100% of your therapists’ undivided attention.

The frequency and duration of treatment for an orthopedic problem is 1-2 times per week for 6-8 weeks. It may take fewer visits per week or longer duration depending on the severity and chronicity of your problem.

If your condition is a recurrence or exacerbation of an older injury, we typically will see you 1 time per week for 6-8 weeks.
